Against the Buffers (we're on iPlayer)

Our appearance on Panorama is now "live" on BBC iPlayer, for viewers in the UK, for the next seven days. In fact, it seems it's on the site for a whole year - the internet never lets you forget ...

Deirdre and I can be seen at various points throughout the programme, making sandwiches, talking and updating this very blog.

We actually had a bit of a post-mortem last night after broadcast, and were a bit unsure whether we'd done the right thing in appearing - but the programme seemed well-balanced and I hope we came across well. Sadly, they mispelled Deirdre's surname and replaced me with Frankie Boyle, but apart from that ...

Anyway, back to life, back to reality tomorrow: the first full week of the new Weightwatchers regime.

  1. Hey, I am watching this now. I run MotleyHealth.com and am writing up a piece on the show, and your blog is in it. It will be published later today.

  2. Hi Jon thanks for the mention. Great article! Although I hasten to add we do not eat like that any more, as this blog testifies :-)

  3. Not available in my area. Sorry that I cannot watch this, but I am sure you two did wonderfully. What an impetus to keep on the plan!

  4. Looked the blog up after seeing it on panorama last night. I thought you both came across well and wish you both luck with your goal. So do you not look like Frankie Boyle in real life?

  5. Just to say that I saw the program yesterday and you came across as very likeable :)
Also just to ask if you've ever considered Tai Chi as an exercise. I know it does not look like something you could lose weight with but Tai Chi is quite weird: it gives you energy and it's harder than it looks but it's pleasant at the same time. I lost 15 kgs with it. Anyway, good luck!

  6. Hi Anonymous! Great suggestion actually, because John loves Tai Chi. I wonder if he will write a post about it in fact.

  7. Anonymous (version 1.0): Thanks for your good wishes. And yes, I do look like Frankie Boyle. Sadly, I can't see much call for a professional lookalike, though - not unless it's a masochists ball! ;-)

Anonymous (version 2.0): Thanks also for your good wishes. I used to do tai chi as part of my cardiac rehabilitation class last year, although sadly that's now tailed off. I really, really enjoyed it.

  8. I've just watched the programme and I wanted to wish you luck. I know you are doing Weightwatchers at the moment but if you want a healthy way of eating real food with no weighing and counting, please check out the Harcombe diet. It's not a quick fix diet, more a life change. The link will give you Zoe's take on the new Weightwatchers plan, she's not a fan !
I hope you don't mind me commenting and I wish you luck whatever path you take.

  9. Watched the programme - you were both great, and I wish you both success on your weight loss. Just a thought, but I had acupuncture for something about 4 years ago, and had to undergo this once a week for 10 weeks. After 3 weeks, I suddenly went off chocolate (it was one of my main food groups), sweets, biscuits, crisps. Sometimes even fruit just seemed too sweet. I dropped 2 stones in weight in a matter of 2 months, although my appetite was its normal healthy self. 4 years on, still can't stand chocolate, I eat the occasional sweet or piece of cake, but its so rare that the family remark on it. How about giving it a try? May help with the task in hand.

  12. Looked the blog up after seeing you on a re-run of Panorama last night. The programme was well-edited, you came across as 'real' and likeable as others have said. Well, it encouraged me to check out your blog and I am enjoying what I have read so far. I hope that you don't receive nasty comments, that would always be my fear. Good luck to you both!
